It may be known as a scary holiday, but it can also be fun, sexy, silly and even a little romantic. And there’s nothing wrong with getting cozy at home and renting a movie that’s got a touch of Hallow’s Eve creepiness. If you’re not a fan of an ultra-scary experience, try some of these mystical and magical Halloween romantic comedy (or sometimes dramedy) movies to get in the spooky spirit!

A Cinderella Story
The Halloween dance scene in A Cinderella Story is the most pivotal part of the movie, making it a solid watch for October. Hilary Duff’s super relatable performance as a girl who falls in love online is forever relevant and brings a classic fairytale into the 21st Century.
Mean Girls
As mentioned above, the Halloween party from Mean Girls brought the third wave feminist “sexy vs. scary” costume debate to the forefront. And we cannot forget the line forever sealed in Halloween history–“I’m a mouse, duh.”
Fun Size
This film seemed to come and go when it came out, but it’s the perfect Halloween romantic comedy movie! Victoria Justice’s character has to find her lost little brother on Halloween accompanied by two friends. It’s a great watch for a modern-day teen movie with a rom com feel.

We already know you love Hocus Pocus, but you know nothing about witchy sister cinema if you haven’t seen Practical Magic! This 1998 film starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman is a moody, mystical tale of two sisters who are cursed with causing the death of every man they fall in love with…. makes dating a biiiit of a challenge.
Beastly
This modern take on Beauty and the Beast gets a little dark in the best way possible. Watch Vanessa Hudgens fall for the beast Alex Pettyfer (and relish Mary-kate Olsen’s final acting role) in this retelling of a fairytale classic.
The Witches of Eastwick
Cher, Susan Sarandon, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Jack Nicholson being his classically creepy self? How could you not love this as a Halloween romantic comedy movie! It’s really a lot more sexy and seductive than romantic, but it’s absolutely worth a watch to follow the three women on their witchy hunt for the perfect man.
Ella Enchanted
This feel-good Anne Hathaway film isn’t just for kids. You’ll definitely enjoy the sweet story of Ella who goes on a journey to break the spell placed on her as a baby. Hugh Dancy as the easy-on-the-eyes, charming prince makes the love story pretty easy to get hooked on.
Edward Scissorhands
A classic Halloween must-watch movie, Tim Burton brings together Johnny Depp and Wynonna Ryder (as per usual) to tell us a creepy, romantic tale. Edward is a man-made human with scissors for hands, but it doesn’t stop his inevitable romance with a local, suburban teen. Pretty much the epitome of Halloween romantic comedy movies!
Teen Witch
Teen Witch might just be the best B-list ‘80s teen movie ever. If you’ve never heard of it, all you need to know is that Robin Lively (yes, Blake Lively’s sister) plays the social outcast Louis. She unexpectedly becomes a witch on her sixteenth birthday and suddenly she gets the power to turn herself from geek to chic. And did I mention it’s a musical? Iconic.
Little Shop of Horrors
You won’t be able to get the songs stuck out of your head with this dark comedy musical. A bloodthirsty plant, an evil dentist, and Rick Moranis! It’s kind of the perfect Halloween movie that has nothing to do with Halloween.
St. Elmo’s Fire
Nothing like an ’80s movie to get you in the costume spirit! It takes place in October and the Halloween scene shows off some awesome ideas for dressing up. The coming-of-age vibe also makes it a classic story of love and adulthood featuring stars like Rob Lowe and Demi Moore.
Freaky Friday
Don’t you just hate when you body-switch with your mom at a Chinese restaurant? One of Lindsay Lohan’s best performances was in this 2003 remake with Jamie Lee Curtis. It’s a must watch for a magical experience that also includes an “edgy” Chad Michael Murray singing a Britney Spears song. Unparalleled entertainment.
Ghost
Ghost took home five Oscars in 1991 for good reason! The late Patrick Swayze played the perfectly alluring ghostly boyfriend of Demi Moore, who buddies up with the medium Whoopi Goldberg to try to get in touch with her. If you’re searching for a romantic comedy Halloween go-to, this movie’s the one.
Bewitched
This film version of the 1960s fave TV show stars the unlikely couple of Will Ferrell and Nicole Kidman. The mystical, meta movie is great for a modern love story with a touch of fantasy. (It’s also one of Ferrell’s rare less goofy roles.)
Heathers
You haven’t seen dark comedy until you’ve seen Heathers. Wynonna Ryder is the perfect offbeat protagonist who falls in love with a creep and accidentally kills the most popular girl in school. Ugh, high school, right? As a side note, the movie has recently gained more relevance with the “Heather” term floating around Tik Tok.
Twilight
It may not have been intended to be a comedy, but you may have a problem holding in laughter re-watching this movie. The franchise swept the teen world in 2008 making werewolves and vampires a part of every girl’s fantasy. The chaotic special effects and somewhat cringey storylines are a bit outdated now, but it’s still worth a watch to dive into the creepy vibe for a night.
Sabrina the Teenage Witch
Before Melissa Joan Hart graced TV screens as Sabrina, she kickstarted the role with the 1996 movie. An Archie Comics-inspired story, the movie takes place in the fictional city of Riverdale and involves the witchy teen Sabrina trying to magically get the hottest guy in school (baby Ryan Reynolds!!) to like her. Be honest, we’d all do the same.
Warm Bodies
Warm Bodies is the perfect combo of horror and comedy! When a zombie falls for a human, they have to make their way through a plague-riddled world (kind of relatable) in this fantasy tale of star-crossed lovers. If you’re seeking a spooky, rom com love story, this might just be the one!
Beetlejuice
It’s hard not to add multiple Tim Burton films to this list, and Beetlejuice is absolutely a classic. It’s not so much about romantic love as it is friendship love, but there is a super creepy wedding scene so that’s gotta count for something!
Don’t Look Under the Bed
This movie is absolutely one of the top 10 best DCOMs of all time! Weird things start happening to Frances and her magical friend Larry has to help her defeat the evil Boogeyman. The movie mixes mystery, adventure, and eventually romance while being thoroughly entertaining from beginning to end.
